Some customers are looking forward to getting their hands on electric vehicles manufactured by luxury brands. Mercedes Benz has recently come out with their first electric vehicle, the EQC. Although it is ahead of its rival companies in the Indian market, Mercedes is still late to the EV game. Now that companies like Tesla are making their way into the Indian market, the already existing brands in India would have to step into the electric vehicle field in order to see profit in their sales.
The EQC is the electric variant of the renowned model, the GLC. However, It looks nothing like the GLC we are used to. The interior and exterior of the car have changed massively. The details that highlight it from the regular GLC are the badging, the interior changes, and the eye-catching futuristic headlights and taillights. It has a huge wheelbase, making no compromises in legroom and comfort.
Now let’s talk charging. Mercedes provides the customer with a regular charger that could be plugged into their home sockets, but it would approximately take 21 hours to charge the battery completely. However, Mercedes also provides an alternative solution. You can get a wall-mounted 4kw AC charger which could reduce the time largely, but installing it is not an easy task. You will have to get your electrical lines checked before installing the wall mount charger because of the heavy load. It does not end there. Mercedes is also planning to tie up with certain companies to provide an industrial-level DC fast charger around cities and highways, which would charge the battery completely within 90 minutes! The claimed range for the vehicle after a full charge is 450 kilometers, but it depends on how it is being driven.
Moving on to the interior, Mercedes has not compromised even a bit on the quality of the interior. The infotainment system with the latest MBUX interface is also connected to the instrument cluster with the help of a humungous digital display. The AC vents have copper accents with sleek trims, making them stand out from their other models. The ambient lighting and the leather seats provide a comfortable and calm ride.
The performance nevertheless, is flawless. The immediate power delivery and the ride comfort would give anyone goosebumps. The ground clearance is not the best because of the huge battery pack below, so it does not meet certain aspects you would expect in an SUV.
Even though the EQC is based on the GLC, the price is nowhere similar. As of now, the EQC starts from 1 crore rupees INR, excluding taxes. You would not feel like it is worth the money, but you sure are doing your part in saving the environment. This is not the only EV available in the market. In a few years, other luxury brands might also come out with EVs of their models, but if you are looking to buy a luxury EV in India, this is your only option.
